Dr. Kelvin Chan is a seasoned public health professional with deep expertise in redesigning public systems to address inequities, support early childhood development, and inform philanthropic strategies. At Building America, he advises on projects related to healthcare and education, helping to shape the organization’s initiatives in these critical areas.

Dr. Chan is highly skilled in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, applying them to tackle public health challenges affecting low-income communities and marginalized populations. He currently serves on the board of Child Care Aware of America, an organization dedicated to advancing high-quality, affordable childcare and building a sustainable support system for working families. He also serves on the advisory board of SXSW EDU, a leading platform for innovation and dialogue in education and learning.

Previously, Dr. Chan held the role of Managing Director of Early Education at the Robin Hood Foundation, where he led transformative initiatives to improve birth outcomes, maternal health, and early childhood development. His work aimed to ensure the most vulnerable children and their families have an equitable opportunity to thrive. He also managed Robin Hood’s $50 million Fund for Early Learning (FUEL), the largest philanthropic fund in the U.S. dedicated to advancing infant and toddler social-emotional development, with a focus on low-income and minority populations. Earlier in his career, Dr. Chan served as Director of Early Childhood Development at New York City’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Dr. Chan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Community Health from Brown University, a Master of Public Health and Management from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in Public Health and Primary Care from Cambridge University. He also earned a Master of Theological Studies in comparative world religions from Harvard University.
