Dr. Kelvin Chan is a public health professional with expertise in redesigning public systems to address inequities, early childhood development, and philanthropy. He helps guide Building America's decisions related to projects with healthcare and education components. He is accomplished in using qualitative and quantitative approaches to address the public health challenges facing LICs and marginalized populations. Currently, Dr. Chan is the Executive Director of Black Family Philanthropies, a family foundation that provides grants to nonprofits who support communities with a 50%+ poverty rate, support behavioral healthcare providers working in New York City Public Hospitals and promote financial & social stability for families affected by mass incarceration.

 Previously, Dr. Chan served as Robin Hood Foundation's Managing Director of Early Education, where he led an ambitious effort to optimize birth outcomes, maternal health, and early childhood development to provide the most vulnerable young children and their low-income families an equitable opportunity to realize their full potential. He previously managed Robin Hood's $50M Fund for Early Learning (FUEL), the largest philanthropic fund in the nation focused exclusively on promoting infant and toddler social and emotional competencies, especially for minority populations living in poverty. Prior to Robin Hood, he served as Director of Early Childhood Development for New York City’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.  

Dr. Chan received a Bachelor of Arts in Community Health from Brown University, Master of Public Health and Management from Columbia University, and his Ph.D. in Public Health and Primary Care from Cambridge University. He also holds a Master of Theological Studies in comparative world religions from Harvard.
